Why read it

A love story like a thunderstorm, cruel, elemental, and utterly unlike anything else. Not comforting, but it grips you by the collar and never quite lets go.

SettingYorkshire moors, c. 1800

On the remote Yorkshire moors, isolated households were small kingdoms, property passed through tangled inheritance, and the line between gentleman and servant could trap a person for life.

About the author
