GajimaruAndroid Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 October 2026. This policy describes the Gajimaru Android app. The website and iOS app have a separate policy.
Who operates Gajimaru
Gajimaru is operated by its developer, based in Ireland. Contact hello@gajimaru.org about privacy or support.
Account and reading data
You can use the guest features without an account. If you create an account, we process your username and password through Supabase authentication. A contact email is optional. The Android app does not currently provide automated password recovery.
Signed-in shelves, reading positions and saved lines are synced with Supabase. Community features store follows, reading presence, milestones, book tags and companion votes. Your username and reading activity can be visible to other readers; switch off community visibility in You to hide them. Other preferences and your chosen profile photo stay on your device.
When the app contacts Supabase, the service receives network information such as your IP address and request metadata to deliver and protect the service. Supabase processes account and synced data on our behalf.
If you add an optional contact email, the shared account service can send a welcome email and website-requested password-reset emails through Resend using that address and your username. Cloudflare hosts the account-service website. These are account messages; contact emails are not used for advertising. The Android app itself does not offer automated password recovery. See Resend privacy information and the website service disclosures.
Optional weather and permissions
For readers who enabled Weather sky, foreground coordinates rounded to two decimal places are sent to Open-Meteo. These coordinates can still indicate a precise location; they are not anonymous merely because they are rounded. Open-Meteo may retain IP-address and coordinate logs for up to 90 days under its policy. Turn off Weather sky in You to stop requests and clear the weather cache, or revoke location access in Android Settings.
Reminders use Android notification permission. Selecting a profile image uses Android's system photo picker. Declining these optional features does not prevent guest reading.
Support, sharing and advertising
Reports and book wishes prepare email drafts with details you choose to send. Quote sharing opens the Android share menu so you can choose a recipient. The native Android app does not send screen-view analytics or advertising identifiers, show third-party ads or sell personal data.
Purpose and storage
Account and reading data provide the requested service. Optional weather uses your consent, which you can withdraw in You or Android Settings. Supabase hosts account and synced reading data while the account is active. Account deletion removes the account and its linked data from the active service. Service providers may retain restricted operational logs or backup copies according to their security and backup policies; these are not used to reactivate a deleted account. See Supabase data-processing information.
Your rights and deletion
You can request access, correction or deletion by contacting us. In the app, use You → Settings → Delete account. You can also request deletion without the app. You may complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission.
Support and deletion requests
We acknowledge email requests within 2 business days and delete the account within 7 days after verifying ownership. We delete resolved support and deletion-request emails after 90 days. Include your Gajimaru username; if you added a contact email, use it to contact us. We may ask for further information to verify ownership. We never ask you to email a password, payment information or identity document.
Children and changes
Gajimaru is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their data. Significant changes to this policy will be communicated in the app.
