Andromeda

Andromeda · the woman on the sea rock

Andromeda is bound to a rock above the sea, left for a monster. Passing overhead, Perseus almost takes her for a statue, until he sees her tears and her hair moving in the breeze.

Context

Ovid places her on the shore of Ethiopia in Metamorphoses IV. Her mother’s boast has brought a punishment that falls on the daughter.
