Demeter

Demeter · the mother who withheld the harvest

Demeter searches for her missing daughter with torches in her hands. While she grieves, the earth keeps its seed hidden and the fields give people nothing to gather.

Context

The Homeric Hymn to Demeter makes the search for Persephone a crisis shared by gods and mortals. The harvest depends on the mother’s return.
