Atalanta

Atalanta · the runner no suitor could pass

Atalanta sets a race before anyone who would marry her. Hippomenes sees her speed, accepts the challenge, and asks Venus for help.

Context

In Metamorphoses X, that help takes the form of three golden apples. Ovid brings desire, hesitation and distraction onto the running ground.
